From Waste to Treasure: 1,500 Books Reach Davanagere’s Kolkunte School Children

Over 1,500 Books (from 600 Children), Which Could Have Become Waste, Turned to Treasure and Reached the Children of Davanagere Kolkunte Government School

As soon as exams get over, disposing of old books becomes a big headache. Neither children nor parents have the patience to sort through what’s needed and not needed, what’s full and what’s empty — so the books either end up in the trash or climb up to the attic.

To prevent such an unfortunate fate for books left unused, and to make sure not even a few pages of any book go to waste, Rashtrotthana Vidya Kendra – Davanagere this time launched an “Old Book-Paper Collection Campaign.” Last April, 600 children enthusiastically filled the campaign’s basket with 1,500 books, showing their care. More than 30 school ayyammas (helpers) took up the task of separating the treasure from the trash. Following this, students Hamsika and Vihar, along with their parents Smt. Sushma and Shri Kotresh, took up the effort of turning the books into usable notebooks — they prepared 500 notebooks and distributed them to the children of Davanagere’s Kolkunte Government School, feeling grateful and joyful.

Let us hope that in the coming year, this waste-to-treasure campaign achieves even greater success on a larger scale! And let us also hope that the children of the Vidya Kendra get to use and take pride in the notebooks that rose up from the waste.

ಕಸವಾಗಬಹುದಾಗಿದ್ದ 1500ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು (600 ಮಕ್ಕಳ) ರಸವಾಗಿ ದಾವಣಗೆರೆ ಕೋಲ್ಕುಂಟೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಮಡಿಲಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದವು

ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳು ಮುಗಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆಯೇ ಹಳೆಯ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳ ವಿಲೇವಾರಿಯೇ ದೊಡ್ಡ ತಲೆನೋವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಬೇಕಿರುವುದು-ಬೇಡವಾಗಿರುವುದು, ತುಂಬಿರುವುದು-ಖಾಲಿಯಿರುವುದು ಎಂದೆಲ್ಲ ವಿಂಗಡಣೆ ಮಾಡುವ ವ್ಯವಧಾನ ಮಕ್ಕಳು-ಪೋಷಕರು ಇಬ್ಬರಿಗೂ ಇಲ್ಲವಾಗಿ ಒಂದೋ ಕಸಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರುತ್ತವೆ, ಇಲ್ಲವೇ ಅಟ್ಟ ಹತ್ತುತ್ತವೆ.

ಹಾಗೊಂದು ದುರಾದೃಷ್ಟ ಬಳಸದೇ ಖಾಲಿ ಉಳಿದ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು, ಮತ್ತೂ ಮುಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಕೆಲವಷ್ಟು ಹಾಳೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಬರಬಾರದೆಂದು ಈ ಬಾರಿ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೋತ್ಥಾನ ವಿದ್ಯಾಕೇಂದ್ರ – ದಾವಣಗೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ “ಹಳೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕ-ಹಾಳೆ ಸಂಗ್ರಹ ಅಭಿಯಾನ”ಕ್ಕೆ ಅಡಿಯಿಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಕಳೆದ ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್‍ನಲ್ಲಿ 600 ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಅಭಿಮಾನದಿಂದ ಅಭಿಯಾನದ ಉಡಿಗೆ 1500 ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿಸಿ ಕಾಳಜಿ ಮೆರೆದರು. 30ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಶಾಲೆಯ ಆಯಮ್ಮಂದಿರು ಕಸದಿಂದ ರಸವನ್ನು ಬೇರ್ಪಡಿಸುವ ಕಾಯಕದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಕೊಂಡರು. ನಂತರ ಪುಸ್ತಕ-ರಸಾಯನ ತಯಾರಿಸುವ ಆಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನು ಶಾಲೆಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಾದ ಹಂಸಿಕಾ – ವಿಹಾರ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರ ಪೋಷಕರಾದ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಸುಷ್ಮಾ- ಶ್ರೀ ಕೊಟ್ರೇಶ್ ವಹಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು, 500 ನೋಟ್‍ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸಿ, ದಾವಣಗೆರೆಯ ಕೋಲ್ಕುಂಟೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಶಾಲಾ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಹಂಚಿ ಧನ್ಯ-ಸಂತೋಷಿಗಳಾದರು.

ಮುಂದಿನ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಸ-ರಸ ಅಭಿಯಾನ ಯಶಸ್ಸು ಕಾಣಲೆಂದು ಆಶಿಸೋಣ! ಮತ್ತು ಕಸದಿಂದ ಮೇಲೆದ್ದ ನೋಟ್‍ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ವಿದ್ಯಾಕೇಂದ್ರದ ಮಕ್ಕಳೂ ಬಳಸಿ, ಅಭಿಮಾನಿಸಲೆಂದು ಆಶಿಸೋಣ.
